David's Teahouse - My Chinese Comfort Food

It has been raining for days now. Manila has been hit by two storms in two consecutive weeks and the sky has been nothing but gray. So is this a weekly thing na?

Anyways, I've been crazing for some comfort food lately and I just can't put my finger on what it is. Is it Tinola? or Nilaga? Anything na may mainit na sabaw that will warm my heart (and stomach) and give me comfort to get through all of this sounds a very good idea.

On my way home, I saw a newly opened branch of David's Teahouse. I remember the time I ate at one about 3 years ago so I decided to give it a shot.

Chinese food to some maybe a far cry for a comfort food. Some find it too oily, some too salty. Well I think its juusstt riiight. . . Memories of gastronomically excellent dimsum flashed back so I told myself that that should do the trick.

So I setup an early dinner date with a friend to have my long awaited mainit na sabaw (in the form of Wanton noodles)

It had 4 dimsums on it and a stalk of Chinese Pechay (I think).

I also tried their Lemon Iced Tea which to me is better than the average iced teas found in other restos.

Then love came when the Dimsum Platter was served. Finally, been waiting to eat a decent dimsum for quite some time. Yuuuuummmmmeyyy!

I most especially liked the Hakaw (shrimp) among the siomai, four seasons, spring roll, shark's fin and the meatballs pictured below.

And of course, what's Chinese Food without a good Chinese Fried Rice. I ordered their Yang Chow Fried Rice. It had shrimps on it and pieces of asado meat, and vegetables like peas, carrots, and other good stuff. We also ordered chicken feet (which I don't eat) and radish cake with hoisin sauce.

After (or before/during) eating, you can enjoy their complementary hot tea that they serve right after you arrive. A fitting way to mark the end of my appetizing experience with all the oil intake.

I left the restaurant 20 pounds heavier and feeling more than stomach satisfied. It felt a little part of my soul was fed as well. A real comfort food!

A bill of P800 for two is not bad at all. I have another invite to eat at David's tomorrow. And guess what?

I'm going.

Eastwood City's German Festival - Car Show

As promised, I now have pictures of the Eastwood German Car Show.

There were two brands, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen on display.

I was looking out the window before going there asking my self who in his right mind would park an expensive car out in the rain since it was pouring hard that day and the day before.

Apparently, people still want to show their babies. I noticed that these cars are lovingly maintained by their owners since it kinda look like old models but still road worthy. I guess they think it is their personal brand of wine. Gets better with age.

Though I was wishfully thinking of seeing the latest top of the line German car like an Audi, or a BMW, or even an Opel, or better yet a PORSCHE!, I got contended snapping a few pictures and going to mcdo afterwards to comfortably enjoy a large french fries and nibble away the wet, dark, friday afternoon that was.

p.s.

I didn't get to watch the choral show.. I'm not sure what happened.

Here are the pictures:

The Rocky Horror Glee Episode

Last Wednesday, I was supposed to attend an office affair but cancelled and hurried straight home instead to watch a Match Airing episode of Glee.

To my disappointment, I found out that this week's episode is a rerun and a new one will be released the week after (Oh how I want to kick myself and go back to the office!).

Searching the net, I found out that they are doing a Rocky Horror Episode. I was like: What the hell is that?!

Okay, okay, I don't know everything alright!

Cory and Lea with Adam Shankman.

So what I did was have a little search on the plot. and Here it goes:
The story, narrated by a criminologist, tells the tale of newly engaged couple, Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, who find themselves lost and with a flat tire on a cold and rainy, late November evening. Seeking a phone with which to call for help at a nearby castle, Brad and Janet discover a group of strange and outlandish people who are holding an Annual Transylvanian Convention. They watch, still wet from the rain, as the Transylvanians, servants, and a tap dancing groupie, dance the "Time Warp", the film's signature song.
They are soon swept into the world of Dr. Frank N. Furter, a bizarre and self-proclaimed "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania". The ensemble of convention attendees also include servants Riff Raff, his sister Magenta, and a groupie named Columbia.
Frank claims to have discovered the "secret to life itself". In a scene inspired by the classic Frankenstein films, his creation, Rocky Horror, is brought to life. The ensuing celebration is soon interrupted by Eddie, an ex-delivery boy, partial brain donor to Rocky, and Columbia's implied lover, who rides out of a deep freeze on a motorcycle. In a jealous rage, Frank corners him and slaughters him with an ice axe. He then departs with Rocky to a bridal suite off of the laboratory.
Brad and Janet are shown to separate bedrooms, where each is visited and seduced in turn by Frank, posing as the opposite. Janet, upset and emotional, wanders off to look for Brad, whom she discovers is with Frank via a television monitor. She then discovers Rocky, cowering in his birth tank, hiding from Riff Raff, who has been tormenting him. While tending to Rocky's wounds, Janet seduces him, while Magenta and Columbia watch from their bedroom monitor.
After discovering that his creature is missing, Frank, Brad, and Riff Raff return to the lab, where Frank learns that an intruder has entered the building. Dr. Everett Scott, Brad and Janet's old high school science teacher, has come looking for his nephew, Eddie, but Frank suspects Dr. Scott of working for the government investigating UFOs. Upon learning of Brad and Janet's connection to Scott, Frank suspects them of working for him.
Rocky and the guests are served dinner, which they soon realise has been prepared from Eddie's remains. Janet runs screaming into Rocky's arms, and is chased through the halls of the castle by a jealous Frank. Janet, Brad, Dr. Scott, Rocky, and Columbia all meet in Frank's lab, where Frank captures them with the Medusa Transducer, transforming them into living statues. They are then forced to perform a live cabaret floor show.
The performance is interrupted by Riff Raff and Magenta, who stage a coup and announce their plan to return to the planet of Transsexual, in the galaxy of Transylvania. In the process they kill Columbia, Rocky and Frank. They release the humans, Brad, Janet, and Dr. Scott and then depart by lifting off in the Castle itself.

Hmmm... A tranny named Frank N. Furter eh?! This should be interesting...
And I heard that Chris Colfer (Kurt) begged to have the role of "Riff Raff" be given to him. Here's how he looks like:

Chord Overstreet (Sam) will play Rocky and says "I'm kind of Naked. Everything but some gold shorts . .  and they're skin tight.

I've seen him in one of the teasers wearing just skimpy shorts and asking if he can just wear at least a pair of gold board shorts instead. But I aint gonna post it coz I want you to watch the actual episode.. =D
Can't wait for Glee's take on this Cult Classic.. Happy Halloween Gleeks!

Eastwood City's German Festival - Ich liebe Bier!

What better way to celebrate Octoberfest than doing it German Style!

For the whole month, Eastwood celebrates OctoberFest that will feed our appetite for German deli, the celebratory staple - Beer!, and I was told the would-be fabulous German Car Display.

I'm super excited to attend the celebration on the 22nd when they will feature the UP Concert Chorus singing German songs, a showcase of German costumes, and drinking ala Bier Garten!

This is what I have in mind:

Sans Kim Kardashian, alcoholics will surely enjoy the Beer Pairing Promo from participating restaurants where they get a free "pulutan" for a beer bucket.

I will be posting pics of my German Octoberfest adventure in Eastwood soon...

PSID presents - "Caleidoscope"

I have been working in Eastwood City for more than two years now.. One of the perks I enjoy (aside from a gargantuan food choice) is my close proximity to PSID. So when they transferred to Fort Bonifacio, words are not enough to describe how awwwww I felt.
So the minute I found out that the Advanced Class of 2010 will have an exhibit at Athena Building in Eastwood, I wholeheartedly sacrificed lunch just to have a peek on what the future movers and shakers of the Interior Design industry are up to.
This year's focus is the "Eighteen booths showcasing interiors featuring a myriad of Colors, to each its own Character and Cause, grounded by its Cost".
And my .. my.. these students really don't know how to disappoint. I can sleep soundly at night knowing that our country's future on Interior Design is safe. And kicking ass!
They showcased colors that I didn't know existed. Colors like Heliotrope, Midnight, Cerise, Cinnabar, Sangue de Beouf, Persimmon, and Cornflower.
Now, where do I start? First let me tell you that I went to the exhibit 3 times.. Yes. I know.
I took notes and I think its fair to share my thoughts on it which we are all entitled to. The students were very warm and welcoming (had a lil crush on someone from the chartreuse team har har!). They will hand you a paper at the reception and you will vote which ones are your favorite, the most unique, and well lighted etc etc. I voted for Sage, Cornflower, Cinnamon, and Tomato for their Design, Lighting, Use of Space (which is very important to me since I live in a condo), and how they utilized the Color assigned to them. Each of the design I mentioned was cohesive, believable, and its something that you would expect out of an Interior Designer. I also factored in the Cost incurred and was so impressed with how they handled their budget.
The most unique for me goes to the egg-shaped dining room by the Indigo team. They had it custom made and painted with urethane (car paint). Its walk way is filled with volcanic soil. I'll try to post pics the moment I can.
Well, overall the exhibit is a Major Success! I would like to congratulate the students for a job well done. I am very confident that your skills and talent will take you places!

Exhibit runs from: Oct 3 - 31, 10AM - 8PM, G/F Athena Building (back of 7/11) Eastwood City

Phil's Tip #2: May mga kating nakukuha sa kamot. Merong nakukuha sa Caladryl. Pero higit sa lahat, may mga kati na kapwa kati lang ang makakagamot. Pili na . .

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen. May mga kating, kati lamang ang makakagamot. And to many, yan ang pinaka-fulfilling sa lahat...

What ever you wanna call it; Craving, Longing, and sometimes Wishful Thinking (and yes - Lust included), ang kati ay isang bagay na hinde maiiwasan, at hinde dapat iwasan pagkat ito ay Human Nature lamang.. And you shouldn't be sorry for it (Listen to Madonna - Human Nature.)

I'm an advocate of being confident of who you are. Whatever tickles your fancy, Go! Follow your heart!

Phil's Tip #1: Wag mong balikan ang ulam na inayawan mo na. Panis na yan!

I've been itching to blog again for quite some time and NOW is the perfect time to do it.

You see I've started to create simple tips I learned about life and posted it on my facebook page. Friends (thanks jakey!) requested to have these blogged so they can read more.. Ibigay ang hilig!

Ang ulam (READ: Ex BFs, GFs, MUs, Flings, with the exception of FUBUs of course) sabi nila ay wag na wag mo nang balikan after mong tanggihan. It will just bring about a lot of complications esp if you guys are in and out of your "relationship".

True. And False. Its like being torn between letting go and giving each other the chance to be happy and hoping that something good will still come along your way. Its like choosing between "I need to be happy" and "Sayang naman" (while listening to "What Might Have Been" by Lou Pardini.)

Sabi nila walang gamot sa:

  • Hopeless Romantic
  • Martir
  • Kagagahan
  • Katangahan
  • at Manhid
My advise? You have to go back to what makes you attracted to the person. Is it just physical? Or something deeper? Can you see yourself growing out of the relationship and moving on to find your own life?

Tanging ikaw lamang ang makakasagot nyan...

Pero kung ikaw ay nasa Limbo State - you dont know if you wanna get out or give it another shot, you will still end up somewhere.

As my gud friend perrybwoi puts it, "Kung walang ulam, Pagtyagaan. Pagpag din yan!"

Ikaw, gusto mo ba ng pagpag?
